What’s the job? What will I actually do?

We are on the hunt for a Strategic Planning Director to work across some of most highly innovative accounts, Diageo EMEA, Arla UK, and Premier Foods UK!

About the clients:

Diageo (50%) has a broad and diverse portfolio of some of the most enduring alcohol brands in the world. This role is to be part of a Diageo Europe leadership team within Carat, delivering future facing strategic planning that will drive forward their transformation and digital agenda. The role will be to lead the planning businesses across Europe to ensure a cohesive strategic offering that can be rolled out across 13 European countries. There will be specific consideration to ensure a high quality of output on the five key brands, Guinness, Baileys, Smirnoff, Captain and Johnnie Walker as well oversight across all European brands.

Arla Foods (35%) are a progressive FMCG company spending £30m+ across 15 brands in three dairy categories. Despite being a global account, this is a UK role and we have a lot of autonomy as it is the biggest market. We have won several awards for our work on Arla and they are looking to be challenged, with a focus on the role of digital to grow their brands. Working with the Comms Planners and the lead creative agency (W&K) the key role of the GSPD will be to lead the annual planning process across the summer. There is an interesting challenge for Arla as they attempt to grow the Arla masterbrand across eight brands, and fold in some disparate brands into it. This is alongside planning iconic brands such as Lurpak and Castello

Premier Foods (15%) are the home of many well-loved British brands such as Bisto, Oxo and Mr. Kipling spending c. £10m a year. The role of the GSPD is to work with McCann Erikson and the Comms Planners to write the annual plans for several key brands e.g. Mr Kipling.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Deliver world class strategy to our key clients, being responsible ultimately for delivering business value to our clients through media strategy
  • Deliver outstanding thought leadership
  • Develop new products and analyses by working closely with other Strategists and members of the Insight, Digital and Innovation teams to find new ways of understanding and predicting behaviour, and productising them
  • Build the Carat network by working closely with Carat local Strategy teams to coach them, and bring them up to consistent levels of excellence around the world

Who are we looking for?

You’ll need to be:

  • Inspiring and self-driven, yet an inherent team player
  • A strong understanding of the changing role of media in brand development
  • A business and brand thinker, who understands the relationship between media and business outcomes
  • You must be able to present to senior level clients and peers
  • Effective influencers both internally and externally
  • Ambitious and committed!
