Data Analysis Apprentice, London, 18 months
Data sits at the heart of advertising decisions, whether it be finding out who clients’ audiences really are, their age range, location website viewing habits etc and it’s this sort of data that drives the decisions of where, when and how we advertise.
We’re looking for a number of apprentices to work across our brands here at Dentsu to learn all there is to know about how to find this data, what it represents and what to then do with it.
What will my apprenticeship consist of?
In addition to working Dentsu Aegis Network (DAN for short) you’ll be required to complete an apprenticeship standard called ‘Level 4, Data Analyst’ via Creative Pioneers². Essentially, the role of a Data Analyst is to collect, organise and study data to provide business insight and you’ll learn how to go about doing this.
Alongside this standard, you’ll be working full time for one of our brands, and will rotate through different teams during your 18 months with us, developing skills and a really strong understanding of the digital economy.
You’ll be part of DAN’s second apprenticeship cohort and will work closely with 9 other apprentices who will start at the same time as you. You’ll frequently meet up with them and build your own internal network to be able to support you when required and to help you navigate your way around starting a career for yourself. We will also link you up with Cohort 1 – a really great group who will have been here for 12 months by September, so will help show you the ropes and support you along the way.
What will you learn?
You’ll learn all the industry techniques and terms, so soon you’ll be comfortable talking about attribution, insight, bid management and advertising servers and what they mean (we’ve got loads of technical specialists willing to share their knowledge with you). Once you understand these terms you’ll be able to help recommend how to best optimise the performance of our clients’ digital media activity, or to advise our creatives on what type of visual campaign might work best at a certain time of the day / week / year!
Whilst you may not know what Pay Per Click (PPC) or Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) mean right now, or what really goes into making a successful social campaign on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, you’ll learn all about these along the way to really set up your career in data and digital. Although if you do know about these things already, you’ll be one step ahead.
We’ll give you access to other data tools such as Google Analytics, Adobe SiteCatalyst and other web analysis tools along with making you an expert in excel – you’ll be v look up’ing and sorting out pivot tables in no time at all.
The Ideal Candidate
Very high attention to detail and an ability to problem solve will really help you make a success out of this role. Good communication skills both verbal and written (you’ll learn how to take technical and complex data and position it simply and clearly to those far less technical than you will become) will be required too.
Organisation skills will also come in really handy, you’ll soon be spread across multiple clients and colleagues and be required to deliver specific tasks with deadlines to match.
Probably the most important thing for us is that you have the drive, ambition and passion to take the initiative to create a career for yourself. The onus is on you to develop, improve and push for new opportunities in your role to expand your network and influence, don’t wait for your colleagues and line managers to make things happen for you.
