Finance Manager - Special Projects

Job Introduction

This role sits with the Group Finance function and the successful candidate will apply a well-rounded ‘corporate toolkit’ to a range of business priorities, such as managing and overseeing the outsourcing programme of activities within Group Finance; contributing to special projects and initiatives by taking responsibility for the delivery of key workstreams; conducting financial and strategic analysis; and ensuring the IT department remains on top of our key systems initiatives.

The role will operate with a range of key stakeholders including other departments in Group Finance (tax, treasury, head office), Regional Financial Controllers, and other key business teams.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the Group Finance outsourcing programme (to Bangalore)
  • Financial, commercial, and strategic support to Group Reporting Manager, key stakeholders including Regional CFOs and Group Financial Controller.
  • Review property investment approval papers
  • Undertaking financial analysis, identifying key insights; and packaging findings into digestible format such as short written papers
  • Management of workstreams of special/strategic projects or initiatives (e.g. taking ownership of a workstream, conducting the necessary research and analysis, summarising output in appropriate written form, and feeding in to the wider project or business context)
  • Preparation of Board papers and other similar documents for senior audiences
  • Manage and oversee significant and complex projects and assignments, with guidance from the Group Financial Controller.
  • Prepare, analyse and reconcile financial transactions and reports to verify accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, university policies and procedures and divisional objectives. Identify and research discrepancies and prepare necessary corrections. 
  • Participate in computer system testing and development. Provide information on system requirements; create and run test data; note errors to be corrected; recommend changes as appropriate. Understand and evaluate interaction between new system enhancements and current computing capabilities. 
  • Assist with development and enhancement of accounting policies and controls procedures across the group

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Some experience of Finance transformation
  • An agile mindset, with strong time management skills to prioritize workflow in a dynamic environment
  • Undergraduate degree (2.1 or equivalent)
  • The ideal candidate could have 4-8 year’s professional experience in a corporate environment
  • Likely to have an accountancy qualification (e.g. ACA, CIMA or equivalent), financial (e.g. CFA)

 

Desirable

  • Other languages an advantage
  • Knowledge of the Media or Digital sectors an advantage
